Doing Good is Good Business

Island Plastic Bags, Inc. (IPB) believes that it is our responsibility to do our part to protect the ʻĀina and the community we live in. The company also believes that doing so is good business. The following are ways in which the company has incorporated sustainability into our business:

  • 65.7% and 63.5% of all plastic bags sold (by weight) in 2022 and 2023, respectively, were made from recycled resin.

  • The company offset 36.4% and 33.8% of the electricity pulled from Hawaiian Electric Company with power generated from its photovoltaic systems in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

  • IPB sold approximately 153,000 lbs. and 137,000 lbs. of disposable cutlery made from PLA, a renewable and compostable material, in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

  • The company sold approximately 129,000 lbs. and 133,000 lbs. of checkout bags made from 40% post-consumer paper in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

  • The company recycles plastic scraps on its premises reducing waste in the manufacturing process and diverting plastics away from Hawaii's landfills.
