Island Plastic Bags, Inc. is excited to announce our new retail compostable cutlery line: Ohanaware! Ohanaware is part of our larger efforts to help our customers comply with environmental regulations and meet their sustainability goals.

As a result of Bill 40 (Ordinance 19-30) on Oahu and Bill 52 (Ordinance 5084) on Maui, grocery stores, convenience stores, etc. are no longer be able to sell plastic cutlery in their stores. Fortunately, we have been hard at work developing a replacement product. Our Ohanaware brand of compostable cutlery is compliant with Bill 40 (Ordinance 19-30) on Oahu and Bill 52 on Maui. To confirm our compostable cutlery has been certified by the Department of Environmental Services, please email Henry Gabriel at hgabriel@honolulu.gov.

The PLA resin used to manufacture the cutlery has been BPI certified (ASTM D6400 Compliant). Click the following link to view the resin’s BPI certification: http://products.bpiworld.org/companies/zhejiang-hisun-biomaterials-co-ltd. The cutlery itself is a USDA Certified Biobased Product.

Institutional Compostable Cutlery

Island Plastic Bags, Inc. sells bulk packed and individually wrapped compostable cutlery compliant with Bill 40 (Ordinance 19-30) on Oahu and Bill 52 (Ordinance 5084) on Maui! The company also sells individually wrapped, compostable cutlery that is well suited to the current health crisis. No one wants to wonder whether someone else has touched the cutlery they are using. The wrappers are also made out of PLA and are therefore compostable as well! Customers can print their logos and custom messages on the wrappers.
